This album sucks, probably the biggest disappointment for me in a long time. Sea Lion and their self titled were sooooo good, their music was so colorful and sunny. They made their music song so different by using instruments from their native New Zealand, they had great percussion, sing along courses and awesome time signatures (Tane Mahuta). It sounded like surf music for today. But most of all, the sound was organic.
Now the Ruby Sons have gone electronic. Don't get me wrong, their sound is still sunny, but it's lost that organic feel they once had, and to me, that was my favorite part about them. You'll find plenty of synths, electro drum beats and beach boys like singing. Some might actually dig the new direction, but they've destroyed their sound to me.
Just another band that has given up on their roots and fell victim to the Animal Collective syndrome.
