Mos Def - The Ecstatic

(9)

This album is great, one of my favorite releases of last year. Mos Def is back with a new album thats more organic thats his previous works. The samples and beats here are courtesy of Stones Throw Records' producers such as Oh No, Madlib, J Dilla, and Preservation with really makes for a unique feel. There's a lot of soul (History) some Arab sounds (Auditorium) and latin vibes (No Hay Nada Mas where Mos Def does some quality rapping in Espanol) funk, afrobeat and jazz. Mos Def is a great MC, you don't get any of the bullshit that most of todays most popular rappers talk about (how fresh they words are, how big they posse is, how tight they beats are) instead, Mos Def is a poet of the times using a lot of imaginative imagery. Guests include Slick Rick and Talib Kweli.

Sounds Like
Mos Def + Stones Throw
